Rev. Jan Mourning’s Mid-Week Message

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

Hello, everyone. I trust you have enjoyed the beautiful sunshine the last two days. Spring is truly the season of rebirth and renewal. Like many of you, I have set the intention to find things in the midst of this pandemic to appreciate and celebrate. Whether it’s the beauty of spring, seeing the COVID-19 situation stabilizing, or finding bread at the grocery store, I know that gratitude is the causative energy that increases our flow of good.

PERSONAL NEWS – Just today, Bob and I received some news to truly celebrate, and he has given me permission to share it with all of you. After several years of radiation and chemotherapy for colorectal cancer followed by two years of immunotherapy for melanoma, his recent PET Scan was excellent – showing no active cancer cells. So instead of continuing his bi-monthly treatments, he will undergo PET Scans every three months. We are both so grateful for God’s healing energy at work, for his amazing oncological team at Siteman, for his holistic doctor, and to all of you for your prayers and loving support the past few years. Like all life challenges, this has been a journey, and we have emerged stronger.

WEEKLY SUNDAY MESSAGES – Continuing appreciation goes to Kathy Boyd, our amazing videographer; Carol Ellerman, webmaster extraordinaire; Dean Wiegert and Anne Hartupee, our inspiring music team; and to Anne Hartupee and Rev. Le Remington for their uplifting messages. Thanks to Kathy, we now have a First Unity You Tube channel, and, our Palm Sunday service had 107 views on YouTube!! On our Facebook page, we had 9 likes, 5 comments and 11 shares. We are reaching out beyond our walls.

Happy 99th Birthday to our dear Dottie Reckenberg on April 18. Because of Safe-at-Home guidelines, Dottie will be unable to have visitors to celebrate her birthday. I’m sure she would love cards and personal notes. Her address and phone number are correct in our First Unity Directory. If you need her contact information, please call Sara at 314-845-8540.

PRAYERS FOR ALL ESSENTIAL WORKERS. I know that every single one of us is holding in prayer all those health care, first responders, grocery, transportation, and other workers who are protecting us and keeping us fed and healthy at this time.

Let us join together in prayer during this Holy Week, seeing and knowing that we are all in this current challenge together. What happens to any of us happens to all of us. May this be a time of unity – not division. May we emerge stronger as a community, a nation, and the world. Even though we are separated in physicality this Easter, we are ONE in spirit — always. Have a blessed Easter.

Love to all~
Rev. Jan
