Community Service Ministry Update!

At its June meeting, the Community Service Ministry began planning activities for the coming year. Many of the 13 meeting attendees were new members, with lots of ideas. The ministry is open to and welcomes anyone interested in helping First Unity reach out to help the community.

Hope Dodson, LUT, chair of the ministry, reviewed the group’s purpose, which is:

“:Identify and coordinate compassionate community service opportunities in alignment with First Unity’s mission of enriching lives through prayer, education, and service. Implement projects to service the greater community.”

Hope also shared a list of the ministry’s ongoing and one-time projects. The 15 projects listed ranged from First Unity’s ongoing support of the Feed My People food pantry, with regular deliveries of donations, both food and monetary; to the Youth Ed Unity Kids one-time project supporting the No Time to Spare Animal Rescue and Sanctuary with their “For Love of Pets” project. The project wrapped up with a visit by puppies from the sanctuary at Youth Ed.

One of the discussions at the meeting was the preliminary planning for First Unity’s third year of participation in the Tower Grove Pride Fest at the end of September. Meeting attendees had the opportunity to volunteer for First Unity’s Pride Fest support team.

Another focus of the ministry’s meeting was a brainstorming session gathering ideas for future projects. Once the group had created a list of suggested projects, Hope asked them to select and write down their top three choices of projects to consider at the July meeting.
